DAVID W. SCOTT AKA "MR PEARLAND", Pearland's oldest born citizen, passed away at the age of 95, Friday, May 15, 2015 surrounded by his loving family. He is preceded in death by his parents, Sam and Joannah Scott; his loving wife, Anna Kate Scott; brother, Loyd Scott; and sisters, Elsie Haney and Irene Bailey. David is survived by his daughters, Rachal Dahse and husband, Ron, Karan Wheelock and husband, Dann; grandchildren, Lance Dahse and wife, Laurie, Allan Hebert and Julie, Aaron Hebert and wife Lisa; great grandchildren, Cameron, Brittney, Darrien, Alyssa, Annalynne, Caelan, Charles; and a host of other dear family and friends.

David grew up on a dairy farm located on Mykawa Road where the now McHard Road overpass connects. He went to Pearland schools until high school. Pearland didn't have a high school until 1937. That year they formed the Pearland Oilers with 13 boys. They played LaMarque High School, the only game for that year. The Oilers won with David at quarterback making the first touchdown and kicking the extra point. He graduated in 1939.

In 1940 he worked at Ellington Field and then joined the 56th Calvary Brigade. They patrolled the Texas Border. In 1943 he joined the US Army and went to Casa Blanca North Africa with the 85th engineers. He went on t0 make the invasion of Southern France and on to Germany.

Before shipping out he met and married the love of his life, Anna Kate Smith who was a 2nd Lieutenant Army Nurse. David was released from active duty when Japan surrendered in Dec 1945.

David retired in 1983, he and Anna Kate loved to travel in their Motor home, and they toured the 49 states and flew to Hawaii!

David has been very active in the Pearland community. He and seven other men formed the Pearland Volunteer Fire Department in 1946. He was the last living member of this group before his death. He also has a gold card making him a life time member of the Volunteer Fire Department.

He was one of the charter members of the Lion's club which was formed in 1948; he was active until his last illness. He was a 60-year member of the Pearland CF Spencer Masonic Lodge 1384. He was the charter Tiler when the Lodge was formed. He was also a life time member of First United Methodist Church of Pearland.

His family roots go back to April 1898 when his grandparents, David and Phoebe Hatfield and his parents Sam and Joannah Scott came to Pearland from Illinois.

David always said Pearland has been a wonderful place to live and raise his family.

A visitation for David will be held Wednesday, May 20, 2015 from 6:00 until 8:00 pm at Clayton Funeral Home, 5530 W. Broadway, Pearland, Texas 77581. The funeral service will take place Thursday, May 21, 2015 at 10:00 am at First United Methodist Church, 2314 North Grand Blvd., Pearland, Texas 77581. Interment will follow the service at SouthPark Cemetery in Pearland, Texas.
