Lawson A. McAfee was apparently living in the Cleveland County, North Carolina area in 1845 when a Devisavit Vel non was filed in Cleveland County concerning his father's will. I do not know if he was married at that time.
Lawson had moved to Talladega, Alabama when the 1850 census was taken. He had married Margaret J. Starnes. She was born circa 1830 - 1831; two census records indicate her place of birth was South Carolina, one listed Alabama.
Lawson, Margaret and family lived in Talladega County, Alabama when the 1860 census was enumerated. They had a 12 year old W. Morgan living with them at that time. I do not know if she was his niece.
Lawson and Margaret McAfee left Talladega, Alabama after June 1860. It is quite possible they were living in Hopkins County, Texas by 1862, definitely by 1864(tax rolls). They lived in Precinct 2 in Hopkins County when the 1870 census was taken.
