A Civil War veteran, he enlisted at the stated age of eighteen in Cumberland County August 29, 1862, and mustered into federal service at Harrisburg October 7 as a private with Co. C, 84th Pennsylvania Infantry. The reason for the delay between enlistment and muster-in is as yet unknown. On January 13, 1865, he transferred to Co. K, 57th Pennsylvania Infantry, to complete his term of service and honorably discharged with his company June 29, 1865.
He married Anna Myers and fathered Christian Myers (b. 09/10/69). In 1870, he was living with his family in York, York County, where he died at his home on South Newberry Street.
