After their marriage, they lived for nearly a year in Dayton, Montgomery County, Ohio, before returning to the West Sonora community, where they lived the remainder of his lifetime. Earl, his wife, Amanda, and their family were highly respected in their community. Their quiet life was cherished by their many neighbors and friends.

Five children were born to bless this home, James Adrian Gebhart, Myrtle Odessa (Gebhart) Prass, Darryl Leon Gebhart, Karl Brown Gebhart, and Ruth (Gebhart) Smith

The family circle was first broken by son, Darryl Leon, who died in 1912, at the age of 2 years. The family circle was again broken with the death of his wife following 56 years of marriage with the death of his wife, Amanda.

Besides being a prominent area farmer, Earl adapted to his task as a practical nurse and housekeeper, having to care for his wife during the several years of illness and confinement to a wheel chair as well as her blindness.

Earl lived the life span of 94 years, 10 month, and 1 day; cause of death was listed as arteriosclerotic heart disease. He left behind, his two daughters, two sons, eight grandchildren: Robert Gebhart, Nancy Prass, Ellen, Marie, Gary, and Roger Gebhart, and Michael and Mark Smith; two great grandchildren; a sister, Margaret Stutz, as well as many nieces and nephews, other relatives, and many friends to survive.

He was interned on July 15, 1971, the Kramer & Moeller Funeral Home of Lewisburg, Preble County, Ohio, and Rev. Norman Glassburn, provided the services.
