James P Gill was born on July 12, 1860 in Bedford County, Tennessee, the son of Wils Gill and Mary (Wheeler) Gill.

He was married [about 1891?] to Mary "Alice" Jones (1862-1942), the daughter of Franklin Jones and Sallie (Mitchell) Jones. {According to the 1910 census, both James and Alice were into their 2nd marriage, but if, in fact, James was previously married, nothing has been found regarding his 1st marriage.}

A teamster [as in express wagon driver] and living at 1006 3rd Avenue South, Nashville, James was married and 78 years old when he died of bronchopneumonia on December 19, 1938 at Davidson County Hospital.

Survivors included his wife Mary, sons W B Gill, W H Gill, J H Gill and T F Gill, daughters Mrs Katie Blair and Mrs Pearl Bruntion/Brewington of Nashville and Mrs Annie Echamon of Saint Louis, Missouri and sister Miss Sallie Gill of Nashville.

Funeral Services were held at Humphrey Street Methodist Church on December 21st, and burial was in Mount Hope Cemetery at Franklin, Williamson County. {It is noted that his obituary has him buried in Woodlawn Memorial Park in Nashville, BUT his Death Certificate has his burial in Mount Hope Cemetery in Franklin, Williamson County. A phone call to Mount Hope Cemetery administration on June 1, 2021 confirmed that he was buried in Mount Hope Cemetery!}
