CRIST PRESTON MERTZ SR died at his home, 718 W. Franklin St., Wednesday at 2:30 am of complications after an illness of ten years, aged 71 years.


Born in Middleburg, Franklin County, Pa., he was the son of David Henry and Mary Ann (Brumbaugh) Mertz.


He had been living in Hagerstown for the past 65 years. He was employed for over 25 years by the M. P. Moller Company, retiring ten years ago because of ill health.


He was a member of Grace EUB Church, The Friendship Men's Bible Class, and the Antietam Fire Company.


Surviving are wife, Flora M. (Dunn) Mertz; daughter, Mrs. Virginia M. Rogers, Hagerstown; sons, Crist Preston Mertz Jr, William Harrison Mertz, and Howard Kenneth Mertz, all of Hagerstown; 5 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren; sister, Mrs. Sue Stone.


Services Saturday at 2 pm at A. K. Coffman Funeral Home with the Rev. Dr. Earl Redding and the Rev. Dr. Gordon I. Rider officiating. Interment in Rest Haven Cemetery.
