Lillian Ilene Adair Cameron, 87, of Marbleton, sometimes called Granny or Grandma was born in Bloomfield, New Mexico, on Nov. 4, 1927. Her parents were Rufus Nathaniel and Nellie Precinthia Reid Adair. There were 10 children in the Adair family: Clarence, Corwyn, Don, Nellie, Leroy, George, Florence, Ilene, Ruth and Floyd. One of Ilene’s sister-in-laws is still living. Ilene lived in Salt Lake City with her sister during World War II. There were army bases nearby and the sisters went to lots of dances. Ilene loved to dance! After the war she moved back to Bloomfield where she met Harry Cameron, a truck driver for Southern Union Gas Company. They were married Jan. 22, 1949 in Bloomfield and later moved to Colorado so Harry could work on the pipeline. His work brought them to the compressor station south of Big Piney. Housing was not available then so they lived in Pinedale and he drove back and forth. When houses were built Harry and Ilene lived at the camp for 13 years. They have one daughter, Nancy, who was born June 20, 1952 in Farmington, New Mexico. Nancy remembers coming home for lunch and finding her mom and dad had pushed the coffee table back in the front room and they were dancing! They both loved dancing and went when they could.

Harry and Ilene bought the Country Chalet Inn from Ron and Nora Lee Firth in the early seventies and Ilene has lived there ever since. Harry passed away in December of 1991. They also leased the Pit and Primer from John and Bobbi Amos for 5 years. Ilene pretty much stayed and kept the motel running but could be found during dances keeping the ice full and helping where she could. In the evening she would stop by with Harry and have a drink then accompany him home. Ilene and Harry both liked to bowl and were on leagues having to travel to Kemmerer and Pinedale and when the bowing alley opened in Big Piney they continued there. Ilene had many interests including reading, watching TV, playing cards and for about 40 years has collected cookbooks. She always had a collection of reading material to the side of her chair so she could keep up on the latest goings on!

Ilene left a legacy to her daughter Nancy married to Robert (Bob) Hanson and 2 granddaughters, Jennifer married to Joe Bruce and Michele married to Kori Walton. Her great grand children are Cody, Challis, Shelby, Blake, Hayden and Connor. She also has great–great grandchildren.

Ilene passed away Tuesday morning, January 20, 2015, at her home in the Country Chalet Inn with her daughter by her side.
