Donald Peter Gurnick, age 71, of Chardon, Chardon, died May 3, 2009, at his residence.Born Nov. 13, 1937, in Cleveland, he had lived in the Chardon area since 1996. Prior to that, he lived in Willoughby Hills.Mr. Gurnick was a civil engineer/owner for 25 years at Mid-Con Construction, working his way to vice president. He was also the owner/operator of ViJac, Inc., from 1984 until his retirement in 2000.Mr. Gurnick served with the Navy Reserves, graduated from St. Joseph High School in 1954, and earned a civil engineering degree from the then Fenn College in 1959, and earned licenses in civil engineering and surveyorship.Survivors are his wife, Catherine A. (Tiderman) Gurnick of Chardon, whom he married Oct. 3, 1964, at St. Joan of Arc in Chagrin Falls; daughters, Joanie (John) Klemens, Donna (Rich) Fillman and Anita Gurnick; sons, Matthew (Lisa) Gurnick and Rev. Michael Gurnick; grandchildren, Courtney, Brian, Jacob, Josie, Kevin, and Delaney; and brothers, William (Judith) Gurnick and Richard (Mary Ann) Gurnick.He was preceded in death by his parents, Peter and Dorothy (Stokes) Gurnick.The Rev. Michael Gurnick will officiate the service. Burial will be in All Souls Cemetery in Chardon Township.
