Harriett Davis Adams, 81, of Charlottesville passed away on Thursday, September 4, 2014 after a six year battle with lung cancer.

She was born on June 18, 1933 and was preceded in death by her parents, Dr. and Mrs. E.D. Davis, Jr. of Crozet, as well as her brother E.D. Davis, III. (Sonny).

She is survived by her husband, William H. Adams of Charlottesville; one daughter Barrie Adams and husband Peter Adams of Chesapeake, VA; one son, Michael S. Adams and his wife Suzie of Afton, VA. In addition she is survived by four grandchildren, Andrew Adams, Stephanie Adams, Kellie Adams and Megan Adams. Also surviving are four step-grandchildren, Brandy, Brian, Becky and Eric and numerous nieces and nephews.

Harriett graduated from St. Anne’s in 1952 and attended Salem College in Winston-Salem, NC. She loved plants and flowers and after raising her children she worked for many years at the Garden Spot on Rio Road in Charlottesville. While in good health she was a regular attendee at Aldersgate United Methodist Church. The family is very grateful for the compassionate care provided by Dr. Robert S. Pritchard and staff at the Martha Jefferson Cancer Center as well as Hospice of the Piedmont, especially Mary Dillon, and dear friends Jimmie and Pat Daniel.

Family visitation will be on Sunday, September 7, 2014 at Hill and Wood Funeral Home from 5-7 p.m. Graveside services will be held Monday, 1:00 p.m. Monday, September 8, 2014 with at Monticello Memory Gardens with Rev. Scott E. Davis officiating. A reception will follow at Aldersgate United Methodist Church on Rio Road. In lieu of flowers please make donations to Aldersgate United Methodist Church, 1500 E. Rio Road, Charlottesville, VA 22901 or to the Hospice of the Piedmont, 675 Peter Jefferson Parkway, Charlottesville, VA 22911. Hill & Wood Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
