Thacker Rites Slated Today at Fort Mac

Charles Thacker, 63, retired Army master Sergeant, died Thursday in the Ft. McPherson Hospital after an illness of a month. His residence was 71 Love Street, Southwest.

Sergeant Thacker retired in 1946 after 34 years of service. He served as chief clerk to Gen. Douglas MacArthur from 1920 until 1926 in the Philippines and was in charge of the general's personal files. He was initiated into the Masonic order with the general there.

A native of Virginia, he served during both World Wars and was chief clerk at Ft. McPherson for 12 years. Sergeant Thacker had lived here since his retirement. He was a member of the Methodist Church.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a. m. Saturday in the Post Chapel at Ft. McPherson. Burial will be in Max Meadows, Va. Chaplain J. S. Ellenberg will officiate.

Surviving are his wife, the former Josephine Veal; two brothers, David and Chaffin Thacker, Austinville, Va.; three sisters, Mrs. P. M. Holston and Mrs. George Fields, Max Meadows, Va.; and Mrs. Fred McHenry, Spring Valley, Ohio.

Charles Thacker, Former MacArthur Aide, Dead at 60

Services for Charles Thacker, 60, a retired US Army master sergeant and former non-commissioned aide to General MacArthur, will be held today in Max Meadows, Va.

Mr Thacker, who spent much time in Dayton during his military service and at one time was stationed at the Clinton County Air Fields All-Weather Flying Center, died last week at the Ft. McPherson Army hospital in Atlanta, Georgia.

Born in Wythe County, Va., he was a veteran of both World Wars, and served in Siberia, China, Japan, the Philippines and Panama. His Army career covered a period of more than 33 years before his retirement in 1946.

Survivors include his wife, Josephine, of Atlanta; a sister, Mrs. Frank McHenry of Bellbrook; a nephew, T/Sgt. Emmet Williams of Dayton, now stationed at Lowry field in Denver, and two nieces, Mrs. Ruby Penwell of Dayton and Mrs. Pauline Gregory of Bellbrook.
