Funeral services for Sophia H. Cuin were conducted Thursday, June 8, 1995 at 10 a.m. at Montgomery-Stryker Funeral Home. The Pastor Frank Moore officiated.

Interment was at Rawlins Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Ken Baker, Darrel Miller, Paul Miller, Bob Stoddard, Mike Cuin, Jim Gibbs, Fred Gibbs and Rob Vogel.

Mrs. Cuin, 95, of Green River, formerly of Laramie died Saturday, June 3, 1995.

She was born Nov. 26, 1899, on a farm near Crofton, Neb., to Charles Robert William Henry and Barbetta (Weigand) Kracht, who had immigrated from Germany. She was the seventh of eight children. She attended school at Crofton and at 19 graduated from Fremont College in Nebraska, receiving her teaching certificate. She taught second grade for several years in Henderson, Neb.

She was married to Harry Luckinbill, Dec. 16, 1920, at St. Joseph, Mo., upon his return from World War I. This ended her teaching, as married women weren't allowed to teach. Their first daughter, Gladys, was born in Oklahoma City. In 1922, they moved to Wyoming settling in Rock River where their daughters, Dorothea and Louise were born. Her marriage ended in divorce in 1930. She then worked in a grocery store at Rock River.

She was married to Lennie B. "Red" Cuin Dec. 22, 1932, in Kimball, Neb. She helped raise three stepchildren, Elwood, Ann May and Wilma Dell. She taught at the Luman Ranch and later at the Harvey Brannon Ranch in Sweetwater County, 40 miles north of Wamsutter.

In 1938, the built the Red Desert Service Station, Restaurant and Motel located eight miles west of Wamsutter. In 1943, their son, Don, was born. In 1972, they sold the business and retired in Laramie. After her husband died, Mrs. Cuin moved to the Ivinson Memorial Home for Ladies and lived there for 10 years. She moved to her daughter's home in Green River in April of 1991.

At the age of 89, Mrs. Cuin wrote a book, "Sophia's Story."

She is survived by her daughters, Gladys Vogel of Laramie, Dorothea Stoddard and son-in-law, Robert of Green River and Louise Charlton of Donnelly, Idaho; son, Don Cuin of Mountain View; 14 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Lennie B. "Red" Cuin; her stepson and two stepdaughters; and her brothers and sisters.
