The funeral of Robert Gardner took place yesterday from the Methodist church at 11 a.m. taking the place of the regular morning service. The members of the G.A.R. turned out in force to pay the last tribute of respect to their dead comrade and a very large congregation packed the church to its utmost capacity. A very impressive discourse was preached by the pastor Rev. C.R. Rice after which the G.A.R. took charge of the remains and accompanied by a large procession of carriages escorted them to their last resting place in Mt. Hope cemetery. A gun squad from the camp of the Sons of Veterans fired a salute over the grave.

Death of Robert Gardner
Robert Gardner, after many years battle with that dread disease, consumption, died at the age of 50 years, on Friday last. His funeral took place Sunday from the M.E. church, the religious services conducted by Rev. C.R. Rice, and the ceremonies in charge of the G.A.R. and Sons of Veterans. Robert Gardner had been a resident of the county for about ten years and was a consistent member of the M.E. church. He leaves a wife and three children to mourn his loss. He belonged to a patriotic family of seven brothers, every one of them served in the Union army. Robert was confined in southern prisons for nine months, and in the rebel prison at Richmond, contracted the disease which slowly but surely wasted away his life. He served in the 45th, O.V.I.
