His colleagues at the Veteran's Administration Hospital in Allen Park regarded Thomas N. Broder as an "enormously creative and talented teacher," one of them recalled. Mr. Broder, the hospital's associate chief of staff for education, died of cardiac arrest Saturday, July 1, 1989, at his home in Southfield. He was 5l.
He administered the institution's graduate program for residents for 11 years and was responsible for 57 programs that annually gave training to 1,600 health care professionals in various fields.
A U.S. Army veteran, Mr. Broder earned his doctorate in curriculum development and vocational education from Wayne State University. He taught in the Detroit Public Schools and at Eastern Michigan University.
Mr. Broder was a former member of the board of governors of the Friends of Belle Isle and also was a Member of the Founders Society of the Detroit Institute of Arts and the Detroit Zoological Society.
He is survived by his son, Thomas N. Jr.; his mother, Mary; brothers, Bryant and Joseph; and sisters, Mary Jo Iverson and Cathy; and many nieces and nephews.
A private memorial service will be conducted by friends on Wednesday. For information, phone 642-1120. Mr. Broder's body was donated to the Wayne State University College of Medicine. Memorial tributes may be contributed to the Detroit Zoological Society.
