Greta C. Rainey, 97, of 5485 Williamsburg Mountain Road, Huntingdon, went to be with the Lord at 4:20 a.m. Monday, June 16, 2014, at her home.
Born March 16, 1917, in Huntingdon, she was the daughter of the late James and C. Ethel (Pollock) Kyle. She was united in marriage to Osborne Rainey May 10, 1941, at the Stone Church of the Brethren by the Rev. George Detwiler. Mr. Rainey preceded her in death March 1, 2010.
Mrs. Rainey is survived by a son, James Rainey and wife, Pamela, of Sykesville, Maryland; a daughter-in-law, Beth Rainey of Millerton, New York; grandchildren, Craig Rainey and wife, Tina, of Charlotte, North Carolina, James Rainey Jr. and wife, Lisa, of Sykesville, Maryland, Jeannie Ladson and husband, Gary, of Glenwood, Maryland, Scott Rainey and wife, Jennifer, of New Cumberland, and Kevin Rainey and wife, Elizabeth, of Enola; and 11 great-grandchildren.
She is also survived by two sisters-in-law, Irene Kyle of Harrisburg and Donna Rainey of Huntingdon.
She was preceded in death by a son, Clark Rainey; and siblings, Joel Kyle, Doris Schroy, Don Kyle, Robert Kyle, Betty Saltzman and Naomi Kyle. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Mrs. Rainey was a member of the Stone Church of the Brethren, Huntingdon.
She was a 1936 graduate of Alexandria High School and a 1937 graduate of the former Nelson Beauty Academy, Huntingdon.
Mrs. Rainey was employed as a sales clerk at the former Sears, Huntingdon, and retired with 30 years of service.
She was known as one of the first female pilots in the Huntingdon area and received her pilot's license in 1938. Mrs. Rainey enjoyed gardening and traveling.
A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, June 20, at the Robert E. Peters Funeral Home, Huntingdon, with the Rev. Dale Dowdy officiating, assisted by Kim Witkovski. Interment will be made in Riverview Cemetery, Huntingdon.
Friends may call from noon to 1 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
