Horace Sanders, 82, of Junction City, passed away April 12, 2014, at Geary Community Hospital. A graveside service with military honors will be held at 1 p.m. April 25 at the Kansas Veterans' Cemetery. A visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. April 24 at the Penwell-Gabel Mass-Hinitt Funeral Chapel.

Horace was born Sept. 7, 1931, in Denison, Texas, the son of Roosevelt and Arzula (Hubbard) Sanders. Horace has lived in Junction City since 1994.

Horace served in the U.S. Army. He later worked as a letter carrier for the United States Postal Service in New York City. He also worked for the New York Transit Authority as a conductor. He was a past member of the Acacia Lodge 91 in Junction City.

He married Roberta Mitchell Oct. 2, 1950, in Denison, Texas. She passed away in 2003.

He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers; one son, John Sanders; one granddaughter, Anyiah Wesley; and one great-granddaughter, Brianna White.
