Obituary
Walter Tichenor Stiles was born in New York city in September 1837. He spent several years in New York at book binding and in Philadelphia he worked at making hand stitched saddles.
Mr. Stiles also made several trips through the south during the civil war, selling woolen goods and had a number of exciting adventures running the blockade. He finally settled in Newark, N.J., where he worked for Durand & Co., a prominent jewelry firm for ** years and was one of their skilled and efficient workman. Three years ago his health failing, he came to live at the home of his only daughter, Mrs. Charles H. Crofut, where he died February 10, 1917, in the 80th year of his age. His wife, who was a descendant of the Stoddards of West Arlington, died several years ago, also his only son.
The bearers were four of his grandsons, Walter *. Stiles of Newark, N.J., William, Robert and David Crofut of this place.
