E. Wayne Mathews of Bryans Road, Maryland, died on Saturday, March 1, 2014 at the University of Maryland Charles Regional Medical Center in La Plata. He was 63 years old.

Born on June 20, 1950 in Bryans Road, MD, he was the son of the late Essie Mae Burrell and Louis William Mathews. Mr. Mathews was a carpenter who enjoyed woodworking and creating numerous items out of wood. He loved to feed the deer around his home, rooting for the Washington Redskins and NASCAR so long as it was a Ford car. In his youth, Mr. Mathews played baseball for the Indian Head Little League as a pitcher. Also, would take his Ford Fairlane down to Budds Creek to the drag races and bring home several trophies, but his pride and joy was his granddaughter Heather.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, the late Jack Mathews.

He is survived by his wife Janet E. Mathews; his daughter Vicki Mathews Daniels and her husband Randy of La Plata; his granddaughter Heather; his sisters Jean Rogers of Tappahannock, VA, Barbara Cockerham of Indian Head, MD and Juanita Coomes of Marbury, MD; his brothers David Mathews of Tappahannock, VA and Bobby Mathews of Hollywood, MD; also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Visitation on Sunday, March 9, 2014 from 2PM to 6PM at the Raymond Funeral Service, P.A. 5635 Washington Ave., La Plata, MD 20646 where Funeral Services will be held on Monday, March 10, 2014 beginning at 11AM with the Reverend Tim Bean officiating. Pallbearers are Wayne Wedding, Matt Mathews, Danny Cockerham Jr., Randy Daniels, Randy Rogers and Justin Hoffman.

Interment to follow at Trinity Memorial Gardens in Waldorf, MD.
