John Michael (Spud) Murphy, 68, 911 S. Jefferson St., died Wednesday morning in Ball Hospital following a long illness. He was a native of Pittsburgh, Pa., but had lived in Muncie most of his life.

He was an employee at the City Disposal plant and was a member of the American Legion and Eagles Lodge.

Surviving are his wife, Ethel; a stepson, Arthur Cleveland, Muncie; and a sister, Mrs. Rose Jetmore, Muncie.

Friends may call at the Stephens Funeral Home after 3 p.m. Thursday. Funeral services will be held there at 2 p.m. Friday with Rev. K. Edward Maynard officiating. Burial will be in Beech Grove Cemetery.
