A native of Fairview, Wyo., Mrs. Branson came to Humboldt County in 1945, making her home in the Fortuna area.
She will be remembered as a devoted homemaker and mother, and for her deep sense of pride in her family. Mrs. Branson considered her sons-in-law and daughters-in-law as her own.
She is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Rose and Lamar Thornock of Sage, Wyo., Velda and Jerry Abrahamson of Fortuna, Norma and Zip Gomes of Eureka, Elva and Glenn Gracey of Broken Arrow, Okla., her sons and daughters-in-law, Arlon and Patti Branson of Willits and Darrell and Louise Branson of Fortuna, and her daughter-in-law, Jeanne Fouts of Stockton; her brothers Marion Hoopes of Carlotta, Roy Hoopes of Fortuna, Lathare Hoopes of Ogden, Utah, and Edward Barkdull of Catskill, N.Y.; her sisters, Grace Hancock of St. George, Utah, Cora Thurston of Fallbrook, Laurine Fleming of Boron, and Larue Hall of Lancaster; her 32 grandchildren and 50 great-grandchildren, and numerous other relatives.
Mrs. Branson was preceded in death by her husband, William Branson in 1966, and by her son, Francis Branson in 1958. She was also preceded in death by her brother, Lynn Hoopes in 1984.
Friends are invited to attend services at Goble's Chapel in Fortuna on Monday, October 28 at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Leslie Darrow officiating. Interment will follow at Sunrise Cemetery, Fortuna.
Casketbearers will be Tom Gomes, Luis Gomes, Ken Branson, Greg Branson, Sidney Thornock, and Mary Griswold.
Arrangements are under the direction of Goble's Chapel, Fortuna, where friends may call for visitation from 8 to 11 a.m. today, from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday and from 8 a.m. to service time Monday.
Those wishing may make memorial contributions to a favorite charity.
