A telegram was received here from St. Joseph, Mo., stating that H. M. Rains, a former resident of Beatrice had been killed there by being run down by a train. The telegram contained no particulars of the accident.
Mr. Rains was sixty-one years of age and was an uncle of Mrs. Joseph Dohner and Mrs. William Elerbeck of this city.
He resided on South Ninth street in this city for many years, and left Beatrice about two years ago for St. Joseph, where he has been employed in a lumber yard. He was well and favorably known in this city and county and his death will come as a shock to his friends in this community.
He is survived by three children, A. E. Rains, who lives four miles southeast of this city, and Calvin and Lulu Rains.
The remains will arrive in Beatrice this afternoon at 3:55 over the Rock Island, and will at once be conveyed to Evergreen Home cemetery for interment. Brief services will be held at the grave at 4:30.
