Mary Eleanor (Spaulding) Murphy, 84, died peacefully on Saturday, October 26, 2013 at Mont Marie Health Care Center in Holyoke. Born in Clinton, Iowa to the late John D. and Mary Eleanor (Mooney) Spaulding, she lived most of her life in Springfield with several wonderful years recently at Providence Place in Holyoke. She was a graduate of Our Lady of Mercy Academy in Syosset, New York and Rosemont College in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. After college, Eleanor worked at Mass Mutual Life Insurance. Later, while raising her children in New Mexico, she began her long career as a teacher. She taught at Saint Francis School in Santa Fe and Ursuline Academy in Springfield and retired in 1994 after many years at St. Mary’s School at St. Mary’s School in Longmeadow. She was a communicant of Holy Name Parish in Springfield.
She is survived by her son John T. Murphy and his wife Sarah of Niskayuna, NY her daughter Mary Eleanor Murphy and her partner Peter Crisci of Whately, two sisters; Barbara Brennan and her husband Edward of Framingham and Marcia Shea and her husband Francis of Wilbraham, three grandchildren; Christopher Erin and Jane Murphy, two nephews; Paul Shea and his wife Jennifer of Longmeadow and Edward Brennan of Maynard, one nice Sarah Brennan Phillips and her husband Richard of Wellesley, and her great nieces and nephews, Ken and Bob Shea and Margaret and Henry Phillips.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her sister Elizabeth (Spaulding) Shea and her former husband Raymond G. Murphy. Visitations will held on Sunday, November 3rd from 2:00 – 5:00 p.m. at Wilbraham Funeral Home, 2551 Boston Rd., Wilbraham. Family and friends may meet for Eleanor’s Funeral Mass at 10:00 am in Holly Name Church, 323 Dickinson St., Springfield. Burial will follow in St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Chicopee. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Sisters of St. Joseph of Springfield, Mont Marie, 34 Lower Westfield Rd. Holyoke, MA 01040
