James Stanley "Jimmy" Richards Jr.

MISHAWAKA - James Stanley "Jimmy" Richards Jr., age 79, of Mishawaka, passed away Monday, Oct. 28, 2013, at the Hospice House of St. Joseph County.

Jimmy was born Feb. 11, 1934, in Flint, Michigan, to the late James S. and Esther M. (Beyer) Richards.

Surviving are his daughters, Dana E. Richards of Mishawaka and Laurel L. Richards of Connecticut; and his grandchildren, Karlee Allison Ring, Robert James Clippinger and Sarah Spring Brough.
He is also survived by his siblings, Tom (Jill) Richards of Osceola, David (Louise) Richards of Illinois and Kathleen Rozanski of South Bend.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Martha Damecki, and his wife, Barbara June (Demo) Richards.

It was Jimmy's wish to have a simple gathering of friends and family to remember his life. There will be a gathering from 1 to 4 pm on Friday, Nov. 1, 2013, at the VFW Post #357 in South Bend.

Chapel Hill Funeral Home is handling arrangements. Jimmy served his country for over 20 years before being honorably discharged from the U.S. Marine Corps. After his retirement, he was employed as a letter carrier for the US Post Office for many years.

He was a longtime member of the VFW Post # 357, where he loved to spend time with his Marine Corps buddies, play cards and tell stories.

In his younger years, Jimmy ran several marathons. He loved to cook and enjoyed playing cards and watching Notre Dame sports. Jimmy also enjoyed traveling throughout the U.S., visiting the many friends he had made during his time in the military.

Burial will be in Chapel hill Cemetery, Osceola.
