Singleton W. ("Woodington" or "Warrington") Childs was the husband of Caroline Wood, the daughter of Samuel Wood and Rachel Stevens. (Seek names of his parents).

In 1830 Calvert Co., I located only one white Childs head of household, a William, age 20-29. In 1830 Anne Arundel Co., I located Cephas, 40-49; John, 30-39; Nathan, 30-39; Thomas H, 20-29; William, 20-29 and Wm, 50-59. Singleton first appeared on the 1840 Calvert Co. census, age 20-30. He lived between Robert B Chew and James Wood.

In 1840, he was still in Calvert Co., MD, on the census.

On the 14 Sep 1850 District 3, Calvert Co., MD census, I found farmer and planter Singleton Childs, 35; Caroline Childs, 20; Joseph S Childs, 1 and Richard S Childs, 2/12, all MD born.

On the 1860 Sunderland, District 3, Calvert Co., MD census, I found farmer and planter Singleton Childs, 48; Caroline Childs, 30; Joseph Childs, 11; Singleton Childs, 10; Richard Childs, 9; Rachel Childs, 7; Caroline Childs, 6; James Childs, 4; Sarah Childs, 2 and Event Childs, 6/12, all MD born.

On the 1870 Prince Frederick, District 3, Calvert Co., MD census, I found farmer Singleton Childs, 57; Caroline Childs, 38; Richard Childs, 19; Rachel A Childs, 16; Caroline Childs, 15; James Childs, 13; Betty Childs, 12; William Childs, 10; Susana Childs, 8; Mary Childs, 7; Robert Childs, 5; Clarence Childs, 3; George A Childs, 1, all MD born.

The 13 May 1879 issue of the Baltimore Sun in the DIED column reads: "CHILDS. -On 8th May, SINGLETON CHILDS, in the 66th year of his age."

"Name of Deceased: Childs, Singleton, Date of Death: 1879/05/08, Certificate No.: 32017, Microfilm No.: 50,241." MD State Archives transcription, Baltimore City Death Index, 1875-1880, 1943-1949, MSA S 1483, MSA C 3 113351

Singleton Childs died on 8 May 1879, at 820 W Pratt Street of dropsy. He had it the last 3 months. Aged 66 years, he was a married man, employed as a machinist. He was born in Maryland and resided in Baltimore for 7 yrs. He was buried 10 May 1879 at Friendship, Anne Arundel Co. Board of Health, City of Baltimore, Permit #32017 (AA shared). I note that BD in the cemetery office checked the records and found no record of his burial here. Sadly, I have found several other people in obits, church records or death certificates that a cemetery office has no record of.
