Dedie was a daughter of Irish immigrants from Donegal. Her grandparents come over in 1850 when her father, Michael A. Ward was five years old. His mother may have had as many as eight children. Their family lived in Ocean, New York.

Michael married Mary Moran in 1862, she was born in the U.S. to an Irish immigrant family. Their first three children were Agnes, Frank and Clara (Sister Claire Order of Sisters of Charity #96623256). This little family left New York during the Civil War for Oregon, taking ship Panama and then to San Francisco and later a train to Portland. They lived for 15 years on a farm near Salem.

Mary was the first children born in Oregon in 1870. Then Edward in 1872, Alice (Alice Ward Drew #82975477) in 1874, Bernadette Beatrice in 1878, and Lillian in 1864. When the family moved to Washington state, Prosser on the Yakima River in 1884 Edith Martha was born and later Emmett who died at age 20, and lastly Ellen Gertrude, called Nell.

Agnes married Peter Prenguber, four of their sons are in the Prosser Cemetery, the oldest Francis is #46465439

Lillian married Eugene Breen and is buried in Seattle #36502280

Brother Emmett is buried with his mother, in Kirkland, Washington.

Edith was married to George Washington Cleveland Jr., they lived most of their lives in San Francisco, he was a salesman who supplied local grocers. When quite elderly she moved to Coos Bay to live near family.
