Russell C. Etter 87 of Roanoke went to be with the Lord on Tuesday August 20, 2013.

Mr. Etter served proudly in the United States Navy during WWII as a Fireman and a certified Diesel Mechanic.

He retired after 21 years as a Carrier with the U.S. Postal Service working out of the old Salem Post Office.

He and his 10 siblings were all members of the Cradle Roll at Waverly Baptist Church.

In his spare time he enjoyed being outside either, fishing, hunting, and just being with nature.

Mr. Etter was lead to the Lord by Pastor Rick Brown of Bible Baptist Church.

He is a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and friend that will be dearly missed by all.

Surviving are his loving and devoted wife of 28 years and best friend, Patsy Etter; daughter, Rebecca Etter, Roanoke; step daughters, Rhonda Altice and husband Tony, Roanoke, Pamela Conner and husband Donald, Roanoke, Sherry Lawrence, Salem; granddaughter, Melissa Hatcher; great grandson, Christopher Hatcher; nieces, Judy Campbell, Fannie Etter; nephews, Ronnie Etter, Carlton Etter, Roger Taylor along with a dear friend, Kim Glessner and other relatives and friends.

He was preceded by his parents, Mary Rebecca Hash and James Etter; grandson, Stephen Hatcher and a best friend, C.P. Bailey.
