Early Life: Martell was born December 4, 1917, in Provo, Utah, to Jasper Adelbert and Mary Ellen Martell Bird.
Life's Work | Service | Interests: On September 11, 1940, he married Venice Cottam in the Salt Lake Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. As a member of the Church, he served as mission president of the Australia Sydney Mission, the Australia Brisbane Mission, and the Scotland Glasgow Mission. He also served as president of the Salt Lake Mission Home. Martell was a regional representative in Southern California and a member of the East Los Angeles Stake presidency. Most recently, he served as managing director of security for the Church. He was a special agent for the FBI for 27 years. J. Martell Bird passed from this life Saturday, January 31, 1987, at his home in Salt Lake City, Utah. He was 69.
Survived By: His wife, of Salt like City; two daughters: Beverly Schofield (Patrick B.), of Visalia, CA; and Brenda Ward (Stanley E.), Leeds, AL; two sons: James Martell Bird, San Juan, Puerto Rico; and Thomas Martell Bird, Riverside, CA; as well as 21 grandchildren.
