Lawrence was the youngest of 11 children born to my great-great-grandparents William J. and Addie Carter Coulter. He was first married to Blanche Lillian Kilham and they had five children: Joan (Mrs. Henry Best), Franklin D.R., Gloria, Sharon and Ann. Baby Gloria died in 1942. In 1952, Uncle Lawrence lost baby daughter Ann, followed shortly by his wife, and then a few months later his 19 year old son Franklin.
He married again to the former Lillian Jacqueline "Jackie" Penner, and acquired two step-sons Michael and Patrick Bowers. He and Aunt Jack had one daughter, Susan, who passed away aged 13 in 1968 of leukemia.
Uncle Lawrence took over the farm from his parents and kept it going for many years before he sold it. He was also at one time a school bus driver. He retired to spend most of his time in Florida. I never saw him much as a result, but when I did, he never said much!
Uncle Lawrence was survived by his wife, daughters Joan Best and Sharon Coulter, granddaughter Lori Best, his step-sons and their families, and a sister Mary Taylor.
