Raymond Edward McConnell, 84, departed this life Thursday, November 26, 1998, in Terra Bella, California. He was born October 23, 1914 in Greenfield, MO.

He was a carpenter and a resident of Terra Bella for 50 years. He was past president of the Terra Bella PTA and a board member and Sunday School teacher at the Terra Bella Church of the Nazarene. He was a 45 year member of the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America, Local Union #743 of Bakersfield.

He is survived by his wife, Opal G. McConnell of the home; son, Michael McConnell, San Diego, CA; four daughters Shirley Londquist, Cayucos, CA, Patricia McConnell, Terra Bella, CA, Victoria Morton, Grand Ledge, MI, five sisters Marjorie Drake and Lucille Butterworth both of Greenfield, MO, Mary Thompson and Marguerite McConnell both of Kansas City, MO. and Juanita Skaggs, Joplin, MO; 8 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Services were held, December 4, 1998, at Terra Bella Church of the Nazarene with Rev. Don Dyke officiating. Burial was in the Hillcrest Memorial Park, Porterville, California.

From an Autobiographical Sketch from Raymond & Opal, dated Mar. 5, 1997. As of this date I am 82 and still living. Married to Opal Gayle Feezel, 4/20/1938. We enjoyed a honeymoon of 8 months in Calif., working in the fruit and strawberries often than not, we worked six days a week. We were driving in dad's old Hupmobile, 9 of us counting Dad & Mother & my siblings, and pulling a trailer behind -- sort of like "The Grapes of Wrath".

Went back to Missouri for Christmas where we stayed with brother Clinon & Family till spring, when we rented a house for thirty dollars a year. Clinton and I bought 40 acres of land near Sand Mountain, each taking 20 acres, where we build houses. To regress a little, I taught school in 1936-37. A little later I sold my acreage and went back to California. We made three trips to California before deciding to stay. Have lived in Terra Bella for 49 years. Our children, Shirley, Ramona, Patricia, Michael & Victoria all attended school in Terra Bella, and then to College, mostly in Pasadena. God has been very good to us.
