SOUTH BEND - Eugene S. Ackard (Bud) passed away on Sunday, June 30, 2013. A WW II veteran, he lived most of his life in South Bend but the last 13 years in Simpsonville, South Carolina. He was born January 9, 1927 in Homestead, Pennsylvania. He is the son of Clyde and Mary Alice Ackard, who preceded him in death.
He married MaryAnn Turner at the Holy Cross Church in South Bend, Indiana on Oct. 13, 1948. He is survived by his wife, MaryAnn; brother, Robert of Monroe, Washington; and three children, Michael (Trudy) Ackard of Greer, Debra Pflugner of Simpsonville and Greg (JoAnn) Ackard of Powell, Ohio. He has eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
He will forever be remembered for his tall tales and witty humor.
