KEOTA-Gary Romoser, age 66, of Keota, died Saturday, August 15, 2009, at his home. Gary was born August 31, 1942, in Ottumwa, to Marlin and Mary (Mayer) Romoser and graduated from Keota High School in 1960. Gary then attended Iowa State University for two years before returning to Keota to farm.

In 1964 he married Tonya Thomassen at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. They were later divorced. Gary then married Christie Darnall.

He lived in the Keota area most of his life except for ten years when he lived and farmed in Montana. Gary was a member of the Elks Lodge in Montana and had served in the Army Reserves.

He enjoyed farming, coaching little league baseball, college football and NASCAR racing.

Survivors include his wife: four children: two step children: eight grandchildren; four great grandchildren and two brothers.

He was preceded in death by his parents and sister: Karla Freeberg.

His body has been donated to the University of Iowa Department of Anatomy. A general memorial fund has been established. Powell Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Keota is caring for Gary and his family.

A celebration of life will be held starting at 4:00 p.m. on Friday, August 21, 2009, at Andy and Dosha Romoser’s home at 1171 170th St., Keota.
