Charles F Verelst, 58, a well known and highly esteemed citizen of Jacksonville, died at his home 645 Charles street, at 8:30am yesterday morning after a prolonged illness.
He was the son of John F Verelst who was born in Belgium. Charles had been a resident of Jacksonville for many years. He served the municipality as city comptroller and was for a long time prominent in politics. In his early manhood he won considerable fame as an all around amateur athlete. He was also an active member of fraternal organizations.
He is survived by his wife, his mother and one brother, all unnamed in this obit.
Funeral services at 3:30 on 9 Aug from St Johns Episcopal church, Rev VW Shields officiating. The local lodge of the benevolent and Protective Order of Elks, of which he was a member, will conduct the services at the grave. Interment in Evergreen cemetery.
