Behend was born in 1862 in Filsum, Ostfriesland, Germany. His parents were Hampka and Behrend Hinrich Busboom.

In 1886 Behrend married Johanna Sofia Schliep in Crete. They were the parents of two children, one who died in infancy and the other named for his father, Behrend. Behrend and Johanna were also foster parents for their niece, Tena Bremer.

He died in 1926 in Crete.

Obituary

Mr. Behrend H. Busboom was born on March 21, 1862, near Filsum, Ostfriesland, Germany. In 1870, he came to America with his parents. They first settled in Minonk, Ill., and in 1874, moved to Middle Creek, Lancaster Co., Nebraska. He was confirmed in the Lutheran church near Emerald, on the 6th of April, 1879. On the 25th of December, 1886, he was united in marriage to Miss Johanna Schliep. In former years they attended services at the Evangelical Friedens church on the West Blue, and it was his desire to be laid to rest in the Evangelical cemetery of this church.

He was ailing during the last winter and suffered from heart trouble. The last couple of days pneumonia set in and caused his death. He passed away on Monday evening, March 29, 1926, at 6:30. He reached an age of sixty-four years and eight days.

He is survived by his wife, one son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Ben H. Busboom jr., of Crete, Nebr., four grandchildren: Evelyn, Dorothy, Edward, and Clarence; three brothers, Mr. Oltman Busboom, Mr. Tonjes Busboom of Emerald, Nebr., Mr. Herman Busboom of Lincoln, Nebr., two sisters, Mrs. Katie Meyer and Mrs. Anna Meyer, of Emerald, Neb., and one niece, Miss Tena Bremer, of Crete.

Funeral services were conducted from the home in Crete, by Rev. Schatz of Hallam, Nebr., and from the Evangelical Friedens church, Rev. G. H. Krueger officiating, assisted by Rev. Schatz. Interment was made in the West Blue Evangelical cemetery.
