Obituary - Scranton Tribune - September 5, 2000

John Robert Barrett, Scranton, died Tuesday morning in the Lackawanna County Health Care Center after an illness.

Born in Scranton, son of the late John J. and Kathryn Burns Barrett, he was a member of Immaculate Conception Church, Scranton, was educated in Scranton public grammar schools and attended Scranton Central High School. He was a Marine Corps veteran of World War II serving in Iceland, Guadalcanal and Tarawa. He received the Purple Heart. He was a member of the Elks Club, and a life member of the Second Marine Division Association 4041. He was an amateur boxer in the Marines and an avid boxing fan.

Before retirement, he was employed as an iron worker and wholesale used car salesman. He was recently associated with Ameys Garage, Inc., Cherryville, NJ.

Surviving are twin sons, J. Robert and Daniel J., both of Allentown; three daughters, Mary Madeline Baran, Northampton; Kathryn Barrett, Bethlehem; and Shannon A. Bauman, East Greenville; a sister, Marjorie Warner, Scranton; a brother, Gerald D., Coalinga, CA; five grandchildren, one great-grandchild; nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be Friday at 9:30 a.m. from the Thomas J. Hughes Funeral Home, Inc., 1240 St. Ann’s St., with Mass at 10 in Immaculate Conception Church. Taylor Avenue. Interment, St. Catherine’s Cemetery, Moscow.

Friends may call Thursday, 6 to 9 p.m.
