Sheryl Stearns Hickle, age 60, of Huron and formerly of Broadland, died Tuesday, October 16, 2012, at the Dougherty Hospice House in Sioux Falls. Her funeral service was at 10:30 Monday, October 22nd at the Kuhler Funeral Home in Huron with Rev. Jan Gross officiating. Burial was in the Broadland Cemetery. The family requests memorials be sent to Day Break Adult Services (Active Generations), 2300 West 46th Street, Sioux Falls, SD 57105.
Sheryl Stearns was born May 26, 1952, at Canton, to E. Russel and Irene Stearns. She graduated from West Central High School in Hartford in 1970 and received her Associate Arts degree from Nettleton Commercial College in 1972.
On May 30, 1975, she married Gordon Eugene Aldrich and they divorced in 1980. She married Terrence E. Hickle on June 26, 1985, they then moved to Beadle County, South Dakota. Since then Sheryl had collected Beadle County genealogy and history, compiling many records for various groups. She was a member of the Broadland United Methodist Church.
Sheryl was preceded in death by her father on August 16, 1984, and her husband Terry on September 13, 2010.
Survivors include her daughter, Elizabeth A. Carpenter; one sister, Lois E. (Wesley) Cass; four brothers, Warren R. Stearns, David A. (Rachel) Stearns, Gary E. (Janet) Stearns, and Joel R. Stearns; her mother, Irene R. (C. Donald) Swenson; and four nieces, Sara (Ryan) MacKenzie, Lisa (Randy) Smith, Jaime and Kayla Stearns.
