Essie L. Green, 90, of Palatka became absent from the body and present with the Lord Monday, March 4, 2013 at the Crestwood Nursing Center in Palatka following an extended illness.

She was born in McRae, Georgia. She came from Wheeler County, Georgia to Jacksonville at an early age and had been a resident of Palatka for the past 40 years, coming from Jacksonville. She was a 1943 graduate of the Andrew Jackson High School. She had worked for the King Edward Cigar Factory in Jacksonville for 16 years, as a Dietician for St. Luke's Hospital in Jacksonville, and for the Duval County School Board for a total of 10 years of service where she was promoted to Cafeteria Manager. She had been active in the Azalea Homemaker's Club where she enjoyed making crafts. She enjoyed taking care of children, including grandchildren and great grandchildren. She had been an active member of the Southside Baptist Church in Palatka where she had been in charge of the storeroom, and worked in the nursery and as a custodian.

Preceding her in death were her husband, Leon Green, Jr.; her parents, William and Rosie Rogers; two brothers, Homer J. Rogers and Jesse W. Rogers; two sisters, Annie Lou Gay and Beatrice Rogers; and one grandson, Chris Bristow.

Surviving are one son, William Gary Harrington of Jacksonville; two daughters and sons-in-law, Gertrude and E.J. Carr of Villa Rica, Georgia and Grace and Dennis Dotson of Palatka; two step-daughters, Patricia Williamson of Greenville, Kentucky and Mora Bristow Belton KY; 15 grandchildren and spouses, Tammy and Greg Horsley of Smyrna, Tennessee, Tracy and Joel Boissielle of St. Louis, Missouri, Jeff and Donna Carr of Georgia, Jane and Kevin New of Georgia, Jimmy and Crystal Carr of Georgia, Dwayne and Debbie Foreman of Palatka, Cissy and Shane Howell of San Diego, California, Veronica and Michael Brawner of Westmoreland, Tennessee, Darryl Dotson of Interlachen, Dwayne Dotson of Augusta, Georgia, David Dotson of Palatka, Jeff Young of Tennessee, Richard Young of Tennessee, Shannon Creek of Belton,KY and Patrick Williamson Tennessee; 26 great grandchildren and 4 great great-grandchildren; a special niece, Joyce Rogers Carlisles of Jacksonville; and lifelong friends and neighbors Kathy and Anna.

Calling hours will be from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Friday, March 8, 2013 at Masters Funeral Home in Palatka. Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, March 9, 2013 at the Southside Baptist Church in Palatka. Committal services will follow at 2:30 p.m. at the Evergreen Cemetery in Jacksonville. Pastor Ray Johnson will officiate at both services.
