George was the son of Alexander Aitkenhead and Agnes (Rankin) Aitkenhead. He was the father of ten children with Annie including: Agnes, George, Alexander, Anne, John, Edna, Jean, Hugh and Arthur Aitkenhead.

George's obit appeared in the Omaha World Herald, Evening Edition on March 27, 1940, page 26.
