Born May 14, 1927, in Fairfield, she was the daughter of Seth W. and Frances Clarridge Nelson. She married Malcolm Dingus Jr. on April 13, 1947. He preceded her in death on March 17, 1959.
She attended Iowa Success Business College and then worked at Farmers State Bank in Keosauqua and Birmingham for over 30 years. In later years, she was a caretaker for a number of people in their home, including her Aunt and Uncle Mace and Inez Clarridge. Shirley was a member of Keosauqua Methodist Church, the American Legion Auxiliary, a 50-year member of the Order of the Eastern Star and a member of the Fort Madison Senior Citizens. She was talented in making Christmas ornaments, enjoyed country western music and feeding and watching birds. She always had a pet, a dog or birds.
She is survived by three sons, Dale(Donna)Dingus of Missouri Valley, Daniel(Jonna)Dingus of Denmark and Michael(Rebecca)Dingus of sterling, IL; one sister, Mary Anna Nelson of Fort Madison; 10 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; two nieces; and one nephew.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one brother, Donald R. Nelson; and one great-grandson.
Funeral services will be 11 am Friday at Pedrick Funeral Home in Keosauqua; with Rev. Douglas Harding officiating. visitation will be open from 3-6 pm Thrusday at Pedrick Funeral Home in Keosauqua, with the family present one hour prior to the time of service Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Maple Hill Cemetery in Birmingham. A memroial has been established for Paws Animal Shelter.
