A true daughter of the Confederacy, her father, James Marion Meek died from wounds suffered at Chickamauga, Ga. in September, 1863; her widowed mother, Susan Jane (Meek) Meek survived in Bradley County, Arkansas until 1868 where she died and is buried with Hattie's siblings; Susan Jane Meek's brother, Dr. James T. Meek came to Bradley County and cared for the children; sometime later, he and Hattie moved to Ennis, Texas, where Hattie married Abe Carroll and their children were: May Hill d.1/17/1972, Allene Marion b. 2/14/1895 in Ennis, Texas and died 9/6/1978 in Dallas, Mrs. C. V. Kirkpatrick, Mrs. F. W. Crone, Mrs. M. K. Lightfoot, Miss Hattie Meek Carroll, and a son, Abe Carroll, Jr.
