Vernon was the last surviving child of Joseph Jr. and Margaret Fouche Gordon. He was survived by his wife, the former Lenora Nokes, children Evon, Lorraine and Joan, and six grandchildren.
Vernon was predeceased by a son, Gary, in 1939.
Vernon was retired from the Potomac Dye and Finishing Company. At one time he had operated a store in Gapland.
Vernon was a member of the Brownsville Church of the Brethren.
