John Moore

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 22, at Grants Pass Masonic Center for John Burton Moore of Grants Pass, formerly of Lane County, who died Dec. 2 of age-­related causes. He was 85.

He was born Jan. 6, 1927, in Richmond, Calif., to Harold and Lorraine Yeargan Moore. He married Meda Mary Lovell on Nov. 28, 1972, in Seattle.

He graduated from Stanford University with a degree in theater arts. He served in the Army during World War II. He worked in the Employment Department for the state of Oregon from 1970 until his retirement in 1992. He was the manager for the office in Lane County from 1975 to 1985. He founded the Sawdust Theater in Coquille more than 46 years ago.

Survivors include his wife; a son, John of Seattle; two daughters, Candace Hill of Evanston, Ill., and Molly Emmons of Magalia, Calif.; two stepsons, Douglas McGriff of Happy Valley and Lloyd McGriff of Bend; a stepdaughter, Marilyn Slater of Myrtle Creek; 10 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Arrangements by Chapel of the Valley L.B. Hall Funeral Home in Grants Pass. Remembrances may be sent to Shriner's Children's Hospital in Portland.
