Evelena Abel, 100, of Crawford died Friday, Dec 27, 2001, in McGregor. Services will be at 2 p.m., Saturday at First Baptist Church of Crawford with Rev. Mike Murphy and Rev. Rory Mosley officiating. Interment will follow in Crawford Cemetery.

Mrs. Abel was born Feb. 1, 1901, in Mound, Texas, the daughter of the late Dudley Jones and Sarah Jane (Foster Gunnin. She attended Coryell Church and Crawford schools. On June 6, 1920, she married William Autry Abel in McGregor. He preceded her in death after 61 years of marriage. At an early age, she accepted Christ at Coryell Baptist Church and was a member of First Baptist Church of Crawford for 72 years. She was an active member as long as her health permitted. There she taught Sunday school, sang in the choir and taught vacation bible school. The Crawford homemaker loved her family. She also was preceded in death by a son, William "Billy" Abel; a grandson and two great-grandchildren.

Survivors include sons, Jack Abel Sr. of Bellmead and Franklin Abel of Crawford; daughters Louise Anderson of Elm Mott and Sarah Barton of Robinson; a sister, Odessa Sorensen of Dallas; 14 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.
