Elbert was a devoted, kind and caring husband, dad, grandpa and uncle. His nieces and nephews looked forward to his visits every summer. He had a wry sense of humor and enjoyed telling jokes.

Elbert attended Graceland College in Lamoni, IA. He met the love of his life in Lamoni. Elbert married Wilma Ashburn on May 27, 1961. He worked for many years as an electrical engineer for Digital in Augusta, Maine. He also taught Electronics at C.M.V.T.I. for five years. He was a very active member of The Webster Masonic Lodge 164, where he was a past Master and the secretary for the last 18 years.

He enjoyed flying his plane around the country with his wife Wilma, he also enjoyed working with wood, building furniture and built his own home. He also helped rebuild the Grange hall which is now Webster Lodge. And he loved tinkering, he could fix anything.

He leaves his wife of 49 years Wilma of Wales, two sons, Elbert Derick Jr. of Harwich, MA and William Derick of Wales, a daughter Sherrice Golden and her husband Paul of Millis, MA, a brother Burton Derick and his wife Ruth of S. Dennis MA, four grandchildren, Mary and Melissa Derick and Zachary and Katy Golden, two aunts Adelia West of Dennis Port, MA and Natalie Denzer and husband Neil of Wellfleet, MA.
