Clifford Eugene “Gene” Chilcote, 84, of Mill Creek, died at 3:35 a.m. Saturday, March 24, 2012, at his home.
Born June 29, 1927, in Colfax, he was the son of the late Jessie Chilcote and the late Thelma (Bumgardner) Wright. He was united in marriage to the former Eva Mae David July 19, 1945. Mrs. Chilcote survives at their home.
Mr. Chilcote is survived by his daughters, Dolores Dunkle of Mill Creek, and Dorothy Means of Elizabethtown, seven grandchildren, Brenda Colpetzer, Nancy Somers, Larry Dunkle Jr, George Dunkle, Ray Dunkle, Jack Means lll, Richard Means. and 19 great-grandchildren and 14 great-great-grandchildren.
He is also survived by his half-sister, Jane Lower of Ironville, and his half-brother, Ralph Chilcote of Mapleton.
Mr. Chilcote was preceded in death by one great-great-granddaughter, four half-brothers, two half-sisters and his step-father, Jasper Wright.
He was a member of Mount Moriah Lodge Number 300 F&AM, Harrisburg Consistory, Jaffa Shrine and Tall Cedars — Juniata Valley. Mr. Chilcote was a 20-year member of the Mill Creek Borough Council and a 40-year active member and former officer of the Captain Jack Lions Club. He was a founding member of the Mill Creek Business
Association, a member of the Mill Creek Bicentennial Committee and a 30-year member and officer of the Mill Creek Sewage Commission. He was active in the development of the Mill Creek Playground.
Mr. Chilcote was the owner/ operator of Chilcote Heating and Plumbing for 25 years, and with his wife, owned Chilcote General Grocery Store in Mill Creek. He was a heavy equipment operator at the Milton Hershey School and worked with the McMinn Asphalt Co. on major road construction projects from Harrisburg to Muncy. In his younger years, he was a tractor trailer driver hauling paperwood.
At one time, he drove Stock Car No. 7 at the Huntingdon County Racetrack and had also served as flagman for the track.
