Roy Dale Sherrill, born April 25, 1944 to Virgina and Billy Mark Sherrill, in Baton Rouge, La. His mother named him for Roy Rogers and Dale Evans. Roy spent many hours as a young boy at the LSU field in Baton Rouge, La. watching the teams practice. Roy didn't just like the TIGERS, he LOVED the TIGERS, so much so that LSU TIGERS was inscribed into his headstone by the family. Roy resided in Columbus, Mississippi as a teenager playing football, attending highschool and working in the family owned service station on Hwy 82 East. He was a retired ironworker and a member of New Hope Baptist Church in Webster County. Roy died unexpectedly. Funeral services were held 10 a.m. Saturday at Oliver Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Bernette Fielder and Bro. James Brown Jr. officiating. Burial was at South Union Cemetery in Webster County. Survivors included his wife, Kathy (Brewer)Sherrill of Eupora; his mother, Virginia Brown of Baton Rouge, La.; daughter, Janae "J.J." Pittman of Eupora; a son, Blake Sherrill of Eupora; three sisters, Ann Sherrill Davis of Heath, Texas, Susan Brown of Baton Rouge, La., and Karen(Brown)McRae of Tuscaloosa, Ala.; a brother, James L. Brown Jr. of Eupora; four grandchildren, Dalton Turner, Jordan Steadman, Allie Steadman and Annslie Steadman. He was preceded in death by his father Billy M. Sherrill as well as his step-father, James L. Brown Sr. Visitation was held 5:30 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home. Other family not mentioned in newspapers obits are: (sister)Joan Sherrill Palmer and (brother) Mark Sherrill of Louisiana, Terry Lee Sherrill of Whitehall, Pa.

My brother was buried next to friends and neighbors Berma and Winford Morrow.
