Pete was the son of Polish immigrants, Bolleck Cerkan and Francis Kotowski, who died when he was only two.
He married May Oma Weiss and was a father and grandfather. His lifetime trade was logging, but from 1927 to 1931 he was a professional light heavyweight boxer who went by the moniker "The Powerful Pole."
