Marland was the 12th of 13 kids born to Johanna (nee Drinkhorn)and John Sanday in 1913. He had a twin that was still born. He worked on the Hough farms, and later went into the Marines. He was stationed in San Diego. He was shipped out on the Lauralee Cruise Liner going overseas. He didn't know his destination. He was on Wallis Island till a small supply ship came into port and needed a 50 cal machine gunner. He volunteered (wasn't with his platoon) and got on the ship and they landed on Guadalcanal. He was then ordered to protect the air run way and then later put on a river running down a valley on Guadalcanal. He was injured when he helped at Telerico. When Marland woke he was in a hosptial bed in the middle of the ocean. He'd been hurt and they picked him up and appears most of the men whom went over there with him were dead. He was then taken somewhere northwest and later returned to San Diego where he was working in the warehouse and guarded it. Someone was caught running from the ware house. He ordered them to stop, they didn't and he shot them. He was given release for killing the individual. Marland was discharged from Marines about 1946 or little later.
Marland then went into iron construction for a period of time. He then moved to Empire, Michgan. He started working for a guy named Magnus Frederickson. Marland made him a millionaire. The farm was known as the Frederickson Orchards. He met and married Mary Madonna (Belisle) Sanday and moved down to Texas after retiring from the orchard in the late 80's. Moving to La Coste Tx 1991. They bought a double wide with a nice yard and resided near their daughter (Suzanne & Mariano Camarillo). They lived there from 1991 till Marland was sent to Guard the Gates of heaven for God, as he was a Marine his entire life. (2000 July). Marland was one of the first marines to guard the first UN Meeting. Now he resides in heaven guarding those gates. Hes waiting for us all to come and be with him in the future
