Son to James E. "Ed" and Ruth (Bachman) Stockdale, Father to James Boardman, Laura Stockdale and Geraldine Ray. His favorite tune was "Cherry Pink and Apple Blossom White."

James entered the Army Air Corps which is now the Air Force. His first marriage (date unk) was to Irene (maiden name unk). They produced a son, James, who was adopted by Irene's second husband.

His second marriage was to Roberta on January 18, 1948. He adopted Roberta's daughter, Geraldine, from a previous marriage and later that year had another daughter, Laura. 'Jim & Bobbi' were soulmates and did everything together. He served his country in the Korean conflict. During his military service, his family lived all over the world. He retired in 1963 and resided with his wife, Roberta (Bobbi)and daughter Laura (Punky) in Anchorage, AK. Upon finding themselves "empty-nesters" in 1966, they stayed in Anchorage during the summer (Jim worked with Stewart at his Jade mine). And they bought a home in Orlando, FL where they stayed in the winter months. They often made "side trips" to Hawaii. They were very active in the American Legion, Jack Henry Post #1 in Anchorage where he held many offices over the years.

James died of congestive heart failure. He had requested his ashes be spread in Seward Bay because he and Bobbi loved participating in the Seward Silver Salmon Derby there. The ashes of both James and Roberta were spread in 1981 off a chartered boat by his loving daughter, Laura, and two of his grandchildren, Tanya and James Bates. Accompanying them were officials and the chaplain from their American Legion post.
