Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in First Baptist Church with the Rev. Bill Fuller, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Panhandle Cemetery by Minton/Chatwell Funeral Directors of Panhandle.
Mr. Lain was born Jan. 26, 1918, in Panhandle. He was a resident of Panhandle for the past 56 years. He was a farmer and member of First Baptist Church in Panhandle. He was also a member of the 55-Plus Club, Love-In-Action Pantry and the Carson County Livestock Association and was a Panhandle Panther supporter. He was a former board member of Hoccheim Insurance.
He was preceded in death by a son, Jimmy Lain in 1988; a son-in-law, Junior Sams in 1998; a daughter, Christy Sams in 1999; and a great-granddaughter, Mia Jewel Sams in 2004.
Survivors include his wife, Winifred; a daughter, Susan James and husband, Neal, of Panhandle; a sister, Evelyn Burleson and husband, Al, of Amarillo; five grandchildren, Wes James, Will James, Sarah James, Aaron Sams and Alyson Sams; and two great-grandchildren.
The family suggests memorials be to St. Ann's Nursing Home or the Love-in-Action Pantry at First Baptist Church in Panhandle.
Pallbearers will be Glen Leven, David Biggs, Leonard Neusch, John Dale Kelley, Franklin Smith and Kenny Williams.
