Barbara was my maternal aunt. Daughter of Donald Odell Frye. Mother to Gene Allen Hopkins Jr. & grandmother to Amanda Hopkins.

I only met my Aunt Barbara a few times during my life but she was a great influence to me. She married very young and had her son. Later in life she was on her own and went back to school to become a Registered Nurse.

I remember when I was about 10 or so she came to visit and after that always sent me nursing uniform catalogues. I am a nurse today due to her influence.

She died of Leukemia just before I graduated from Nursing School, but she knew I was attending. The hospital where she worked later dedicated the floor she worked on to her with a plaque in her memory.

Aunt Barbara was tough, she survived five years, working as a nurse all the while AND she went to bartending school!

She lived her life to the fullest as she knew her time was limited. She worked up until nearly the day she died. She didn't show up for work and so they knew something had to be wrong. Her boyfriend went to her house and found her very ill.

She was one great lady!
