Jasper Newton Davis, son of an unknown mother and William W. Davis of Alabama. Jasper had an older sister Regina that married William Pogue, and brother Ensley Pulaski Davis. Only three children of this marriage lived to adulthood.

Jasper married #1 Mary Frances McElrath in Jacksonville, Ala. 29 July 1855. They were the parents of two known children: John Wesley born 11 Oct 1856-died 28 Jun 1906 and Francis H., date unknown, but died 9 June 1859. Mary's parents, John and Rachel McElrath, also were from South Carolina. Mary died 24 Jan 1859 and was buried in Alabama. Mary's parents, John and Rachel McElrath, they were also were from South Carolina. Mary died 24 January 1859 and was buried in the Boozer Cemetery, Alabama.

Jaspers #2 wife, was Jane M. Wood, daughter of Nancy (unknown) and James C. Wood. Jane Davis applied for a Widow's Pension #5648 from the State of Texas. Her husband, Jasper served in the 18th Ala regiment, the 9th Ala Batt., "Co. F" 58 Ala Batt., regiment where he served til the close of the war, serving about 3 years. Jasper died 24 March 1875, burial location thought to be Honey Grove, near Paris, Tx. A family member told me Jasper was buried in Honey Grove, Fannin County, Texas but no actual cemetery name could be provided and none has been found to date.

The 1880 Lamar Texas County Census listed Jane, head of household, farming only occupation given, children listed as: Thomas, age 16, James, age 15, Anna, age 12,
Joseph, age 10, Della, age 6 and Mollie (Mary Jane), age 4.

Children of Jane and Jasper were:
1) Their first child was named Nancy Jiner (may be Joiner-a family surname), born 1 Oct 1860 died 30 Jun 1861,
2) William Jasper, born 27 Jan 1862-died 6 Aug 1863,
3)Thomas A. born 9 Nov 1864, death information unknown.
4) J.E. (James Emory) born 13 Apr 1866, died c1926,
5) Anna born 1 Dec 1867, J.E.J. (Joseph) born 12 Apr 1869, death information unknown.
6) R.E.B. male, b. 24 March 1871-d.22 July 1871,
8) D.A. (Della) born 3 Jan 1873,
9) Mary Jane (Mollie) born 20 Jan 1875, two months before
Jasper's death, she died 01 Dec 1948 Amarillo, Potter, Texas buried Greenwood Cemetery Find A Grave Memorial# 48422777. She was married to William Lee H. Laseter 1895.

Jasper's father William married Sarah (maiden name unknown) but Sarah was the widow of Richard Faulk who also died in Lowndes Co, Al during 1828
